Scope
The
LPE and GROUND Conferences develop a unique approach intended to contribute
to the integration of the scientific and technological researches about
Lightning Physics and Effects, Grounding and Lightning Protection.
These joint conferences
provide an opportunity for researchers, engineers, designers and users,
from a wide range of Industry and University, to present and discuss
the latest scientific results and share their practical experience in
this field.
Historical
Note
In
1998, the first GROUND Conference took place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
GROUND'98 was planned as a specific International Conference on Grounding
and Earthing and was a great success. Since that time a large number
of selected works was dedicated to Lightning Protection. The attendance
encouraged the organizers to repeat the event two years later.
The second event
GROUND’2000 consolidated the Conference as the most important international
event related to Grounding and as an important event related to Lightning
Protection.
Following, in 2002,
a joint event was organized in Rio de Janeiro, comprising the GROUND’2002
and the 3rd WAE (Brazilian Workshop on Atmospheric Electricity) Conferences.
The meeting quality was continuously improving and the interaction among
researchers, manufacturers and people involved with applications achieved
excellent levels. At that time, it became clear a very unique approach
developed by the events: an integral approach for the physics and effects
of Lightning, the protection against it and Grounding. This picture
led to the decision of attributing a new format to the event that was
able to integrate such topics: two joint conferences.
This format was
practiced two years later, in Belo Horizonte. The GROUND'2004 and the
first International Conference on Lightning Physics and Effects (1st
LPE) shared the same space. The event included a workshop dedicated
to the Brazilian Lightning Detection Network. This experience was a
great success and the adopted format was consolidated.
The
joint Conferences GROUND'2006 and 2nd LPE took place in Maceió.
The audience had the opportunity to participate of a very nice technical
event and to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the Brazilian
Northeast. In November 2008,
the
GROUND'2008 and 3rd LPE Conferences
took place in Florianopolis,
a beautiful capital in the Brazilian southeast coast and the following
event the
GROUND'2010 and 4th LPE Conferences
took place in Salvador, the capital of Bahia in Brazilian
Northeast.
The
GROUND'2012 and 5th LPE Conferences are now under preparation
to take place next November 2012 in Bonito,
Mato Grosso State, Brazil.
